The San Dimas House Photo Album

This is the house we lived in from 1993 to 2006 (at which point we moved to Bellevue, WA)

First we have the house from the street (the fence to the right was replaced when the pool went in).

The projects we did over the 13 years we lived here are documented here and here .

The Kitchen

The biggest project we did was the kitchen remodel. We relocated a galley kitchen and added lots of countertop. This involved taking everything down to the studs and rebuilding (we moved an opening, shifted the sink by 10 feet, added a new window, removed an old window and added a bay window as well as installing the cabinetry and appliances. The main things that were contracted out were the Corian installation, cutting 10' of concrete to lay a new drain line, and installing the new water pipes). The highlight of the job was having the Corian installer comment on how the tops of the cabinets were the levelest he had ever seen.

And here are some pictures of the new kitchen.

That is a 24' length of Corian along the side with the sink in the middle of it. Almost all of the base cabinets have drawers instead of shelves (we do live in earthquake prone California after all).

Initially we had a Dacor range (that is what is in the pictures) - but it had issues and we finally replaced it with a GE Profile free standing double oven range.

In the center of the first picture you can see the kinetic sculpture (Tranquility) that I bought from David Roy (Wood that Works). If you click Tranquility you can see the flash animation of it in operation.

Other projects

The other major project I did was relocating the electrical panel when the pool was installed. We were out of space for new breakers and the panel needed relocation. I pulled new romex from the new box to the attic - where I joined it with all the existing wires. When an electrician gave a $500 estimate for wiring up the new breakers I decided to do it myself (what can I say - I'm cheap)

Moving Out

When we moved out we went on a 8 day finishing up spree (helped immensely by the presence of my brother Carl - who was a machine). We repainted almost every room in the house (in retrospect this ended up being quite time consuming and would have been better contracted out. We installed laminate flooring in the last bedroom, ripped out the built in office, *finally* replaced the ugly yellow glass panel next to the front door, and had the stairs and upstairs hallway recarpeted.

We listed the house on a Monday and had a full price offer within a week :)
